#Hackgate : Oliver Hoare Hacked By The SUN ?

It is pretty clear from this article that the SUN did not have a 'source' but were hacking Oliver Hoare's telephone...

Quote

According to The Sun, Hoare (who was still serving as a liaison between the Waleses) called Diana "at least 15 times" in the days following a March 14 dinner with friends at a Chinese restaurant, after which he returned with her to the palace. "A royal source" told the paper that one call last April "started at around 8:30 at night and went on for close to [90 minutes]. Who knows what was being talked about, but they obviously had plenty on their minds."

#Leveson Inquiry : Witness Statements

#Leveson : #Murdoch #Blair #Desmond - Unexpected Information Released - July 2007

Publication date: 18 July 2007

The Cabinet Office has unexpectedly agreed to release information about meetings and calls between Rupert Murdoch, Richard Desmond and Tony Blair while Prime Minister.

In 2004, the Liberal Peer Lord Avebury requested information about the dates of contacts between Tony Blair and media moguls.  The majority of this information was not released, even when the request was repeated under the Government’s own Freedom of Information legislation, the Cabinet Office claiming that the meetings were private or that the information was exempt as its release would “prejudice effective conduct” of public affairs.  The Information Commissioner’s office accepted this argument, leading to an appeal to the Information Tribunal in order to test the Government’s argument.

With this appeal pending, the day before evidence was due to be served on the parties in the Information Tribunal case and the day after Gordon Brown took office, Cabinet Office made the surprise announcement that the information requested was to be released.  The information shows regular contacts between the then Prime Minister and media moguls.

Tamsin Allen of Bindman & Partners, Lord Avebury’s solicitors,  said:
“The Cabinet Office argued that meetings between Murdoch and Blair were not ‘official’ meetings because they were not minuted and the information was exempt from the Freedom of Information Act.  That argument was always tenuous and it was therefore not unexpected that this information would eventually reach the public domain. What is surprising is the timing of the announcement (the day after Tony Blair’s resignation) and the fact that the Government sought to suppress the information for so long. ”

Lord Avebury said:

“This is a welcome blow for the cause of freedom of information, but it shouldn’t have taken so much time and effort to extract information that was so clearly of great public interest. Rupert Murdoch has exerted his influence behind the scenes on a range of policies on which he is known to have strong views including the regulation of broadcasting and the Iraq war. The public can now scrutinize the timing of his contacts with the former Prime Minister, to see whether they can be linked to events in the outside world.  One hopes that the timing of the Government’s decision to capitulate indicates that under Gordon Brown’s leadership, freedom of information will be made a reality.

#Leveson Inquiry:Forum Discussing The Sinister Cover-Up Of Madeleine McCann

#CNN #PiersMorgan's Credibility Flushed Down The Pan By Leveson's Jay !

Shifty Piers pays the price for his past mouthing-off

Will Paul McCartney now go to the police about the voicemail hack incident?

In a sharp and well-briefed interrogation by Robert Jay QC at the Leveson Inquiry this afternoon, Piers Morgan appeared to contradict himself several times, and ultimately was forced to fall back on evasiveness – “I don’t recall”, “I don’t believe so”, “I don’t remember saying that” and so forth. Trying to kick off by setting up a cocky debate with Jay, Morgan had to be rebuked twice by Leveson himself.

Morgan, faced with having said in the past “hacking is a bog-standard journalistic tool”, denied that he had known it was widespread at The Mirror. He was quoted as saying in 1997 that he “knew [hacking] was widespread”, but earlier in his evidence stated that he didn’t know “how to do the trick” until 2001. Having denied ever doing such things himself, the Kirsty Young transcript from Desert Island Discs showed clearly the use of “I” by Morgan on several occasions. On his sale of shares aka insider trading when at The Mirror, Jay caught Morgan out again about how much he’d invested in the shares – or rather, what he’d told the Mirror and the PCC. Questioned about ‘binology’ (raking through celebrity bins) The Romping Arse ludicrously suggested he hadn’t known the term until the Inquiry began, only to be faced with ample evidence that he knew the word perfectly well….having himself employed the notorious ‘Benjy the Binman’...read more

#CNN #PiersMorgan : Heather Mills Is Hacked Off - No One Messes With Heather !

From BBC News August 3rd 2011

Heather Mills has alleged a senior Mirror Group journalist admitted hacking voicemails left for her by her then-boyfriend Sir Paul McCartney.

[snip]

The journalist whom Ms Mills said contacted her is not Piers Morgan, who was the editor of the Daily Mirror at the time.
However, the message in question appears to be the same as one which Mr Morgan later admitted to listening to.

In a 2006 article in the Daily Mail, Mr Morgan referred to hearing a recorded message which Sir Paul had left for Ms Mills.
He wrote "at one stage I was played a tape of a message Paul had left for Heather on her mobile phone".

[snip]

If Ms Mills' recollection is correct, the call Mr Morgan listened to had been hacked, and a fellow Mirror Group Newspapers journalist had tried to use it to get a story.

#CNN #Leveson #PiersMorgan Must Have Known About Phone Hacking

Piers Morgan, host of CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," left the CNN building in Los Angeles, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011. A tense and sometimes hostile Piers Morgan refused to disclose details about the most damning link between himself and Britain's phone hacking scandal — his acknowledgment that he listened to a phone message left by Paul McCartney for his then-wife Heather Mills.

Piers, berated in England for his softly softly approach when interviewing the McCanns who claim their child was abducted without a shred of evidence, cadaver dogs and many inconsistancies among the group of doctors statements gave Piers much to question the McCanns on but he buckled and the interview was a flop.

#CNN #Leveson #PiersMorgan - Ryan Parry Stunt ! Andy Coulson Also Had Very Little Vetting By David Cameron !

The Queen has won a High Court order blocking a newspaper from revealing more details about the Royal Household.

The Daily Mirror's Ryan Parry got a job in September as a footman at Buckingham Palace using a false reference.

His identity was revealed by the paper the same day US President George Bush arrived in the UK for a state visit.

The Royal Household, which accuses Mr Parry of breaching a confidentiality agreement, was granted an injunction until 1630 GMT on Monday.

It had earlier said it would sue both Mr Parry and the paper.

The revelations in the Mirror put pressure on the government, Buckingham Palace and Scotland Yard, which has spent £5m and put more than 5,000 police on the capital's streets for Mr Bush's visit.

Had I been a terrorist intent on assassinating the Queen or American president George Bush, I could have done so with absolute ease
Ryan Parry
Daily Mirror reporter

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: "We sought this injunction in order to protect personal privacy and we are satisfied with the progress made this afternoon."

A White House spokesman told the BBC on Wednesday that despite the security breach at the palace, "the White House still has confidence in British security".

The Daily Mirror story included pictures by photographer Phil Harris from inside the palace of the bedroom used by Mr Bush and his wife, The Belgian Suite.

There were also pictures of the Queen's breakfast table and the Duke of York's room.

Mr Parry wrote: "Had I been a terrorist intent on assassinating the Queen or American president George Bush, I could have done so with absolute ease.

"Indeed, this morning I would have been serving breakfast to key members of his government, including National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

"Such is the shocking incompetence at the heart of the biggest security operation ever in Britain."

In August, Mr Parry responded to a job advertisement on a recruitment page of the Buckingham Palace official website.

On his CV, he left out any mention of his journalistic career and included one fake reference and a real one, the newspaper claimed.

Mirror editor Piers Morgan said the paper used "very basic subterfuge and got incredible access".

"To our surprise and then mounting horror we discovered that our man with no training, no experience at all, no real vetting was in very close proximity to the most important people in our country," Mr Morgan told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

He described the reference checking as "scandalous" and "shoddy".

We did not want to genuinely compromise any ongoing security issues
Piers Morgan
Daily Mirror editor

Mr Morgan alleged that someone from the palace rang Mr Parry's local pub where he had given a name as a character reference.

"That person had left and they shouted down the bar: 'Does anyone know Ryan Parry?' To which some man in the corner drinking, said: 'Oh, I know him, he's a good guy'."

Mr Morgan said they had decided to pull Mr Parry out of the palace once the president arrived as "we did not want to genuinely compromise any ongoing security issues that might arise while [the president] is here."

'Robust' checks

Mr Parry had previously gone undercover at Wimbledon tennis championships to reveal security flaws.

Mr Blunkett said he was "obviously concerned" about the alleged security flaw.

However, he said he was "satisfied that the security and criminal records checks had been done robustly and correctly and that there was no risk from the reporter".

He said that "there were wider issues to see if lessons should be learned about how checks are undertaken".

The alleged security flaw will compound the embarrassment caused by comedian Aaron Barschak, who gatecrashed Prince William's 21st birthday party in June.

An inquiry following that incident highlighted a number of police errors in guarding Windsor Castle.

#Leveson : #CNN #PiersMorgan Has To Go...Heather Accuses Piers Of Scapegoating

#leveson :So #PiersMorgan LIED ? Heather Mills Denies She Played Piers Morgan Voicemails !

Heather Mills, the former wife of pop star Sir Paul McCartney, said that she never disclosed private voicemail messages from her ex-husband to former tabloid editor Piers Morgan.

Mills said that Morgan, who yesterday told the Leveson inquiry into press standards that he had heard a voicemail message left to her by Sir Paul, was using her as a "scapegoat".

She added that she would be "more than happy" to answer any questions the inquiry had for her about the subject.

In a statement she said: "For the avoidance of doubt, I can categorically state that I have never ever played Piers Morgan a tape of any kind, never mind a voice message from my ex-husband.

"Piers Morgan is doing all he can to deter the Leveson inquiry from finishing their important job.
"Morgan is using me as his scapegoat and I would be more than happy to answer any questions that the inquiry would like to put to me.

"As stated in a press release by my ex-husband, he has never insinuated that I have leaked tapes of him to the media."

Yesterday, counsel to the inquiry Robert Jay QC asked Morgan about a recording of a voicemail message left by Sir Paul for Mills when the couple were suffering problems with their marriage.

Morgan refused to say when or where he heard the message - because he wanted to protect a "source".

Lord Justice Leveson asked: "The only person who would lawfully be able to listen to the message is the lady in question or somebody authorised on her behalf to listen to it. Isn't that right?"

Morgan said he did not know what he was "expected" to say and added: "All we know for a fact about Lady Heather Mills McCartney is that in their divorce case Paul McCartney stated as a fact that she had recorded their conversations and given them to the media."

Lord Justice Leveson told Morgan: "I am perfectly happy to call Lady McCartney to give evidence as to whether she authorised you to listen to her voicemails.

"She may say she did, in which case you're not compromising anybody. But if she didn't, then we can proceed on the premise that it's somebody else, can't we?"

#NotW : Andy Coulson loses high court battle over phone-hacking legal fees

NGN not liable for ex-News of the World editor's legal bills if allegations of criminal activity are made against him, court rules

Andy Coulson, David Cameron's former director of communications, has lost his attempt to force News Group Newspapers to pay his potential legal costs over the News of the World phone-hacking affair. Photograph: Dominic Lipinski/PA

Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has lost his high court bid to force News Group Newspapers to pay his potential legal costs over the phone-hacking affair.

Mr Justice Supperstone, handing down judgment on Wednesday, ruled that Coulson's former employer is not liable to pay his legal bills if allegations of criminal activity are made against him.

Coulson had asked for a declaration that NGN, which stopped payments in August, "must pay the professional costs and expenses properly incurred" by him "in defending allegations of criminal conduct" during his tenure.

Supperstone said in the judgment: "Clause 4.6 of the agreement [between Coulson and NGN] does not cover the criminal allegations made against Mr Coulson personally.

"If, contrary to my view, the criminal allegations are covered, no proceedings have commenced. For the reasons I give above, this claim fails."

The judge ordered Coulson to pay NGN's costs and refused him permission to appeal, although he can renew his application directly to the court of appeal.Coulson has consistently denied allegations of criminal wrongdoing. He was arrested and bailed on 8 July by the Metropolitan police in connection with conspiracy to unlawfully intercept communications and payments to police officers.

He resigned from his position as David Cameron's director of communications in January, saying that coverage of the scandal was making it too difficult for him to do his job.

Coulson and NGN entered into a severance agreement – which included a clause about payment of future legal costs – on 26 February 2007, two days before he resigned as editor of the News of the World.

Coulson wanted the high court to declare that the contract meant that NGN "must pay the professional costs and expenses properly incurred by [Coulson] in defending the criminal allegations".

However, Supperstone said in his judgment: "Plainly, as editor, Mr Coulson was required to act lawfully. That being so, the reference to editor in the clause must be to someone performing the lawful duties of editor. His duties comprised only of lawful activities.

"Accordingly it cannot have been intended that activity outside the scope of an editor's lawful responsibilities would be covered by an indemnity; still less that the indemnity should extend to any serious criminal activities for which he was alleged personally to be responsible."
NGN earlier on Wednesday lost a separate high court action brought by Glenn Mulcaire, meaning that the newspaper group must continue to pay the private investigator's legal fees in future phone-hacking litigation.

One only has to make a guess of the amounts in the bottom list ADDED to the £2,275,000 KNOWN amount you can start to appreciate the enormity of the fund they are ‘hiding’ when ‘admitting’ to spending approx £1,000,000 on the search for Maddie.

What I find incredible (by my estimate) is that they have received at least £4,000,000..probably in excess of £6,000,000 and yet only ever quote what they have left..usually around £500,000

#Leveson #Pressreform : Revealed - How To Hack Into A Mobile Phone

HERE IS some important advice for people having illicit affairs or negotiating lucrative new jobs. Don't leave any messages on a mobile phone. And make sure no one leaves you any.
In an astonishing breach of security BT Cellnet has handed out, over the telephone, a confidential pin number allowing the recipient to listen in to the confidential messages of any of the five million customers on their network.

The Independent on Sunday has that pin number and yesterday was able to hack into the message systems of 15 people. Their permission was obtained in advance.

Having done this we contacted BT Cellnet to inform them of the breach of security. Despite repeated requests it proved impossible to speak to anyone in authority although we explained the seriousness of our request. We were told to phone back on Monday.

Our informant obtained the vital password by informing the company that she had lost her phone but was expecting an important message.

Once given the pin number all she had to do was to phone, tap in the secret code and listen to the messages. But because the code is non-specific it also enables her to retrieve the messages of everyone else on the Cellnet network. All she needs to know is their number.

This is done by calling the person's mobile phone number when the phone is switched off and then entering the magic pin number followed by two other numbers.

This violation of personal security can potentially affect all of the company's five million customers. The last security breach to affect mobile phone companies was criminals "cloning" phones to make calls for free; it cost the mobile phone companies millions of pounds. It was to tighten security that old-style analogue phones were replaced with digital phones which are supposedly hacker and criminal-proof.

But the ease with which message systems can be broken into indicates that digital phones are no more secure than the older version if staff are giving out sensitive information so easily.

The National Consumer Council said it was "astonishing" that the information was available to consumers and said it raised enormous questions about security and privacy.

"People could access all sorts of sensitive information this way," added a spokeswoman.
"Given the number of people who now have mobile phones, this really is very worrying and would make people think twice about relying on them."

#Leveson #PiersMorgan Admits To Listening To Tape Of Heather Mills Voicemail Messages

Former Daily Mirror and News of the World editor Piers Morgan admitted to the Leveson Inquiry that he listened to the tape of a celebrity couple’s voicemail.

Morgan, giving evidence via videolink from Los Angeles, admitted after some questioning from Robert Jay QC, the Inquiry counsel, that he was played a tape of a voicemail message exchange between Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney from the time of their divorce proceedings.

Morgan admitted listening to the tape, but refused to answer more questions as he wanted to protect the identity of his source.

Jay asked: “Have you listened to recordings of what you knew to be illegally obtained voicemail messages?”

Morgan replied he had not, but went on to admit he had listened to the tape containing Mills’ messages.

He said: “I can’t discuss where I was played that tape or who played it because to do so would be to compromise a source.”

When asked whether he thought that was unethical, Morgan said it didn’t “necessarily follow that listening to somebody speaking to somebody else is unethical”.

Lord Justice Leveson intervened and said he would be happy to call Mills as a witness, to verify whether she had authorised Morgan to listen to the messages.

The CNN presenter was also asked about allegations of the practice of phone hacking being widespread amongst showbiz reporters at the Daily Mirror, according to the written statement of former reporter James Hipwell, who will give evidence tomorrow.

Hipwell claimed phone hacking was so frequent it seemed like “bog-standard journalistic tool for gathering info”. Morgan denied knowledge of that.

Morgan said at the beginning of his evidence most editors only know about 5 per cent of what their reporters are up to.

He said “to the best of my recollection”, he didn’t believe phone hacking was taking place in the Daily Mirror before 2004 (when he was sacked from the paper).

He also said he took a “keen interest” on everything his reporters were doing.

Jay asked him about an array of practices in newspapers, including ‘tipping’. He mentioned an episode of Morgan’s career when he bought £67,000 in company shares in Viglen, one day before the story was published in the Daily Mirror.

There was a complaint made to the PCC and it was claimed Trinity Mirror knew he had bought £20,000 in shares before story was published. Morgan said he did not know who gave the wrong information to the PCC.

Tomorrow Leveson LJ will hear from James Hipwell, Nick Flagge, Padraig Flanagan, and David Pilditch. It will be the last day of the Inquiry in 2011.

#Leveson #McCann #HUSH Deals - Are There More To Come? And If So Is It Not Time This 'Slush Fund' Of Their's Was Investigated ?

McCann's STILL Insist They Were Not Hacked - Are There More HUSH Deals To Come ?
List of Nick Fagge articles re: s (includes deleted articles) posted on twitter by Winnower who has informed us Nick will appear at Leveson tomorrow

HiDeHo Blogger keeping a close eye on the HUSH FUND and as you can see things are not stacking up !

I have been updating these figures for a while, but felt there is enough included in the figures below to expose the Mc’s for receiving far more than is ‘believed’.

Please keep in mind that some amounts MAY have been held back for their ‘legal fees’ and I have NOT included the amounts pledged for a ‘Reward’

August 29th 07…………Fund rec’d to date ……………………………£1,005,000
Sept /Oct 07…………….Fund rec’d ……………………………………..£53,000
Sept 16 ………………….Stephen Winyard (defence fund DNA)….£100,000
Oct 3 07 ‘Leicester Mercury’ Wristbands…………………£57,000
Dec 8 07……………..Sir Richard Branson.(Legal costs)…………….£100,000
March 08…………….Express payout ……………………………………£550,000
June 08……………….Interest on £500,000 yr………………………..£30,000
Sept 7 08……………..Brian Kennedy…………………………………..UNLIMITED
Oct 16 08…………….Tapas from newspaper damages……………£375,000
Nov 11 08…………….Liverpool Races……………………………………£5000

Above total of FUND RECEIVED…(that is KNOWN) £2,275,000
The above amount does NOT include money received from
Sir Philip Green and Brian Kennedy and the Doctor……………………?
or other anonymous backers……………………………………………….?
or any amounts from the public to the fund since Oct 07…………….?
or the income from their TV and magazine interviews…………………?
or the envelopes to Rothley…………………………………………………..?
or the income from sales of wristbands and tshirts………………………?
or fundraising events since Sept 07 ………………………………………….?
or any money possibly already received from the book and movie deals that Clarence discussed!…………………………………………………………?
or the ‘year-long deal’ with Hello magazine………………………………..?
or the unknown amount from News of the World ref the ‘Diaries’ article….?
Lets not forget their possible ‘deal’ with IMG for the movie they were considering…….?

At a guess I would say those amounts could easily run into a further £2,000,000…and thats WITHOUT anything Brian Kennedy has ‘donated’ and paid….along with other income not added yet!
£4,000,000 (approx) and they continue to claim they need money?
I’ll bet its close to £6,000,000 and all we ever hear is £1,000,000 spent looking for Maddie and £500,000 left in the fund…

Thanks to everyone that added their input! There is a lot more to include but I felt with the appeal looming that it needed to be known that they do NOT need money…and haven’t spent what they received on finding Maddie..

#Leveson : #McCann - When HUSH Money Becomes A Donation And TRUTH Is Now Libel

#Leveson : #McCanns & #ClarenceMitchell Take Leveson Inquiry For A Spin !

http://www.iirpresentations.com/A1035/pdf/D2-0845-ClarenceMitchell.pdf

CC says:

“The Guardian says the money was paid “on condition that the terms of the deal remained secret”. A confidentiality agreement was signed in September 2008.”
Yes, this deal was so hush-hush and confidential that Clarence Mitchell, in his role as family spokesman and roving ambassador for Freud Communications, felt able to put the figure in a powerpoint presentation to IIR Middle East’s annual PR Congress in Dubai in November 2009.
This presentation has been publicly available here for two years:

See page 10.
However, there is another payment from the News of the World to the McCanns that remains very hush-hush and as yet unreported. Perhaps this press release is supposed to disguise that?

#Leveson #Sun - #McCanns Admit Giving The Children ....

Of course the SUN hacked the McCanns and if someone looks in the right place they will discover more 'HUSH' fund money. The SUN claim the McCanns admitted to giving the children....WHAT...what did the SUN hear through hacking the McCanns on sedating their children ????? something that made them cough up and BLOCK articles online related to sedation the month of September 2007.

The Sun posed the question directly to Kate McCann: “Did you sedate. Maddie?”

Articles of this nature have of course been removed from the SUN, a deal with Murdoch very early on it would appear !

8 Sep 2007 – The McCanns managed without a car until 25 days after Maddie vanished. ...DID you sedate Madeleine?” The McCanns admit giving the children ...

The tide of public opinion has now started to turn against the family from Rothley. "Did you sedate Maddie?," asks The Sun, the notorious British tabloid, referring to the speculation that Kate McCann, a doctor, may have given her daughter an overdose of a sedative. The McCanns say the accusation is "completely ludicrous."

  • #leveson Inquiry : Stuart Hoare -“my brother told me phone hacking was routine at The Sun”

The brother of News of the World whistleblower Sean Hoare told the Leveson Inquiry phone hacking was allegedly routine at The Sun.

Stuart Hoare told Leveson LJ about conversations he had with his late brother, Sean, during and after his time as a News International employee about phone hacking allegedly being widespread in both newspapers.

Hoare and his brother Sean had email exchanges about the alleged practices in the Sun and NoW newspapers.

He told the inquiry how Sean had been off alcohol and drugs for about 8 months before he was interviewed by the New York Times in July 2010 about phone hacking and other practices such as ‘pinging’ (finding out the exact location of someone’s phone) at the News of the World.

They also had alleged conversations about bullying – Sean told him about one reporter in particular who had issues at the NoW.

Sean died in his house, in July, of consequences of alcohol abuse, according to a coroner.
Hoare said: “The main reason I’m here today is to represent my brother and let his voice still be heard.”

The inquiry also heard from the deputy editor of the Independent on Sunday, James Hanning, who had a series of conversations with Sean Hoare in the summer of 2010.

He said Hoare told him a number of individuals at NoW, Hoare included, had hacked phones.
Hanning said he thought Hoare’s motivation to speak out – the hard time he had in his last couple of years at the NoW – did not affect his reliability.

He also said: “I saw no evidence that he was in the state I’d heard he’d been in the past. He seemed to be operating very efficiently and impressively.”

The inquiry will hear from former NoW reporter Matthew Driscoll, who won £800,000 in a bullying claim against the newspaper, in the afternoon.
